The Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment in Southwest China's Guizhou province has been striving to encourage companies to resume work, while also ensuring a safe ecological environment in recent weeks.
Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the bureau has assigned staff members to supervise medical institutions, sewage treatment plants, designated hotels, quarantine areas, companies that have resumed work, and hazardous waste treatment centers to prevent virus infection.
To date, the bureau has sent over 2,000 law enforcement officials and 700 environmental monitors to check about 700 medical institutions, 100 sewage treatment plants, and several drinking water resources.
From Jan 21 to Feb 22, Guiyang disposed 550.7 metric tons of medical waste, while all the medical and municipal sewage were discharge according to the standards. In addition, all the centralized drinking water resources met the standards, while surface water and air quality were also stable.
The bureau has also accelerated the approval of key projects involving virus prevention by simplifying or exempting approval processes, as well as offering online applications.
The Jiangjunshan section of the Guiyang public health center is an example of their actions, as the bureau completed environmental impact assessment approval in two days, which laid the foundation for the construction to be completed on schedule.
